Modified 1500 pt GK List & thoughts

Thought I'd throw a post out here while I have some thoughts on units from this relatively new codex. I've gotten two games in with the Grey Knight book and so far I'm finding it enjoyable. Both were vs Larry's Mechanized Dark Eldar, the first being Kill Points - which I took, and the second being capture and control which resulted in a draw. I'm thinking him and I will be experiencing the growing pains of using a new list together, as we both could easily find a few mistakes we made in those games. That being said, 40k shows its prowess as a great game by being something that you can always get better at.

Here's my updated list with my thoughts in italics:
100 Coteaz - this guy allows me to take =I= henchmen as troops and isn't too shabby for his points cost. Sanctuary played a role by preventing some wyches from charging and I can definately see it coming into play more in the future.

100 Banisher w/Eviscerator, 7 Psykers - bumped these guys up to 7 for the higher Strength. Only drawback to this squad is when they fry themselves.
60 Chimera w/Hull Heavy Flamer & Dozer Blade

42 2 Plasma, Flamer - I'm not saying this is the best unit ever but I feel like taking a unit like this could be pretty good in the long run. During the first game I played with them, the KP mission, they simply acted as a mobile firebase in their chimera. Their low numbers didn't come into play because that particular transport didn't get destroyed. The second game I had my purifiers take their chimera and put them with the rest of my firebase on my objective. Their plasma did work, and eventually the flamer guy killed like 5 DE Warriors. So far so good.
60 Chimera w/Hull Heavy Flamer & Dozer Blade

147 3 Banishers w/Eviscerator, Crusader, Flamer, 7 Acolytes - A relatively simple CC troops choice with the ability to carve up armor as well as negate a few saves when it's clutch. The unit is cheap and can fit in a Chimera if I need them to. The flamer is a cheap way to keep them a bit more killy and flexible. Most of the time these guys will slog it up the middle of the battlefield with the transports for cover.

145 Grey Knight Strike Squad w/2 Psycannons, MC Daemonhammer, 2 Nemesis Force Halberds - I was playing these guys as purifiers in the last game but I could tell that they will end up playing more of an anchor to most of my games, shooting and doing cc as a counter-assault unit if need be, so I swapped them over to Strike Squad status to render them scoring. Deep Strike and the ability to hop in a Chimera make the unit versatile.

134 Banisher w/Eviscerator, 2 Jokaero Weaponsmith, Flamer, 5 Acolyte - Jokaero's are cool and they don't seem half bad so far! This is my anchor unit. If I stick Coteaz with them they can be pretty nasty on the 'I've been waiting for you' rule. Very stoked to see a unit with Multi-melta abilty like this and being able to kit the unit out with an Eviscerator and flamer and still keep on the cheap is pretty cool imo. The fact that this unit can just up and move with the rest of my force and still be effective makes this unit one that I'll be watching to see how much I can eek out of them.

150 Dreadnought w/Psybolt Ammunition, Assault Cannon & Missile Launcher - Not the most ideal loadout but hey, it's built and painted so I'm gonna give it a few go arounds. Hasn't been amazing yet but hasn't been bad. S7 Assault Cannons with Rending are cool.

145 Vindicare Assassin - HOly Shit GW!

145 Callidus Assassin - She still seems to be pretty damn good. First game I had her hop out of a unit that was in CC (doing d6 S4 hits during my f-ing movement phase lol) and use her flamer template on another unit. Dipped through a building the next turn due to move through cover and fleet and commenced carvin up some Warriors. Just don't roll horrible on your reserves k thx

270 Dreadknight w/Psycannon, Nemesis Greatsword & Personal Teleporter - HOO HOO! Shunt is pretty fricking cool and if you compare this beast to a Demon Prince (which are good imo) it looks even tastier. The Greatsword might not have a million attacks on the charge but the re-rolls (and cool giant sword) are worth it. Get yourself a cover save though kiddos, that 5+ don't last long unless you roll like me.

1498

EDIT: after a few days, here's my further chopped-down list. Found the points for EA on the Chimeras which is pretty necessary imo

100 Coteaz

76 Acolyte, 7 Psykers
75 Chimera w/Hull Heavy Flamer, Extra Armor & Dozer Blade

42 2 Plasma, Flamer
75 Chimera w/Hull Heavy Flamer, Extra Armor & Dozer Blade
147 3 Banishers w/Eviscerator, Crusader, Flamer, 7 Acolytes

140 Grey Knight Strike Squad w/2 Psycannons, Daemonhammer, 2 Nemesis Force Halberds

134 Banisher w/Eviscerator, 2 Jokaero Weaponsmith, Flamer, 5 Acolyte

150 Dreadnought w/Psybolt Ammunition, Assault Cannon & Missile Launcher

New Dark Eldar army list 1.5K

This is the best I can do with what I have model-wise. I took out all the fun and frills. No more randomness of waiting for reserves. What's left goes all on the table at once, all on the same flank and attacks in unison. For the Eldar, it's not very elegant, seems kinda Orky, but it's worth a try. Stay focused and don't get fancy.  Always remember to play the mission and be mindful of the objectives. I type this crap, but I never seem to do any of it during a game...

The Baroness-- 105Pts. IE: Baron Systhonyx.
8-Hellions-- 128Pts.

10 Warriors
Splinter Cannon
Blaster
Raider
Flicker Field
Night Shield--195 Pts.
2 Units for 390 Pts.

10 Wyches
1 w/Shard-net
Heckatrix
Phantom Grenade launcher
Hay Wire Grenades
Raider
Night Shields
Flicker Field-- 230 Pts.

Ravager
Night shields
Flicker Fields--125 Pts.
2 Units for 250 pts.

6 Jet Bikes
2 w/ Heat lances--156Pts

3-Trueborn w/ Blasters
Raider
Night Shield
Flicker Field--161Pts

5 Mandrakes--75Pts.

Grand total of 1495

The army basically works in three waves. Jet bikes and Mandrakes play disruption, the second wave of Hellions, Warriors and Wychs. Finally, the Ravagers play the support role. I'm aware that not everyone is a big fan of the Night Shield upgrade, but I am. The only silver lining to my last game was watching some of  Z's guns come up short, thanks to the Shields. Just 10 Points to break my opponent out of his rhythm for those first few crucial turns is not be dismissed. They also give you a edge during a Night fight. Go fig...

If there are any blinding errors or omissions? I'd be happy to correct them.

That's it folks! Sorry, the pictures aren't the greatest, but its damn cold in the garage!

I made the first post around the end of November and now just a few months later. We have Ze' painted army.  Over the past two weeks, it's been awful hard to keep the brush moving, but I managed somehow to see the project to the very end or at least until the next wave of toys hits.....

Anyways, if ya' see any glaring errors in the list?

Feel free to leave a comment and help save me some embarrassment at the table.
It's time to play the feud....

Escalation League (week 2) recap & Week 3 preview

Here's a few random thoughts: I like 8th edition*, I like the store I found, and blocks of Saurus Warriors are best ignored or evaded. You most likely won't seal the deal without devoting a -lot- of resources to the melee.

Week 2 was another good time and this time I managed a win. My opponent was a really cool father that had his kid in the league too. (He was distracted a bit but I didn't mind. I'm sure his kid was having a blast.) This game was vs. Lizardmen again in a cool Fantasy-esque mission where our forces vied for the possession of warpstone tokens, which were worth a random number of victory points at the end of the game.

For next week, I bought another unit of Glade Riders, some Waywatchers, and two of the new generic pieces of wargear (from the back of the rulebook) for my Noble.

130 Wood Elf Noble w/HoDA
Elven Steed, Light Armour, Charmed Shield, Luckstone, Spear

Wood Elf List for Escalation League (week 2)

Last week was fun, but I lost. Apparently comets aren't good for anyone's health... who knew? This week I get to add 250 pts to my army which is cool. Noble gets to ride a horse now and I get more trees and bows. My strat? Shoot em and stick em lol

I'm gonna try to take pictures this week. Good times are distracting and all. Here's the list. Any advice on going to 1k from my readers?

I know, I know.... this list is for 'ard boyz? You must be asking yourself.... "Where's the Cheese?"
No, this list does not contain a double Slann. Nor, is it a Stegga-stampede. It's a nice balanced list with all the units that I am comfortable playing with. I won't lie, there are a few things I'd like to change, but funds and time are an issue right now.  It may be 'ard boyz and all, but I'm not going field unpainted minis just to win a silly tourney game.

Once you start down the dark path of unpainted minis, forever will they dominate your destiny.........

Dark Elves 1850

My dark elf list... Please note that when I started the army, I bought the models that I liked, before the internet could tell me otherwise. The list is set at 1850, but if you add it up, it's a little short. I'm still not sure if I want a unit of cold one knights or if I want to try out two smaller units of Witches and Executioners? That will be a game-day decision.

The overall plan seems to be for the army to move in mass while the range units clear the path. Dark riders should be deployed together to threaten one of the flanks. The Manticore is held back to counter-charge the dragon. Hopefully the beast will do some damage and if I'm lucky take the monster down after softening it up with the bolters. The sorceress goes with the spear unit along with the assassin. I'm really geeked to play with this guy! He's got 5-8 poison attacks that always strike first. If I wanted, I could add on the killing blow ability and really scare some wood elves.

25 Warriors -215
Shields and full command
War banner

5 Dark riders -117
Musician
Cross bows
2 units for 234

10 Cross bow warriors -100

1 Cold one chariot -100

2 Bolt Thrower -200

1 Cheesy Hydra -175

Dread lord -400
With Manticore, Caldor's bane and Armour of Darkness

L2. Magic lady with Tome of Furion-150

Assassin -121
Extra hand weapon and Rune of khaine

Any thoughts?

Nobz and a List

All that is left now... 8 measly BR. Boys. It seems that this wave of reinforcements is coming to a end. Over the past week I've painted up over 30 new models for the Horde. I'm good with infantry for awhile. There a few other ork projects, I could get into but it's all for Apocalypse.

Da' list 1,200 pts.

Mek with Kustom Fld. and Evy armour. 90 pts.

20 Shoota- 2 big shoota- with nob P. Klaw and B.pole. 170 Pts.

20 Slugga -with Nob, P. Klaw and B. pole. 130 Pts.
2 units for 260 pts.

8 Loota's- 130 pts.
2 units for 260 pts.

12 Storm Boys with Nob, P. Klaw and boss. pole. 184 Pts.

3 Kans with Rokkits and Rigga's-165 pts.

If I wanted to make the list competitive. The Kans are gone, and end up with some koppta's and maybe an extra stormboy. So, we have 89 boys and 3 mini dreads on the table. I'm a bit worried that the storm-boys mob may be a to small. Units of 12 "truck boys" tend to run away allot! Why should the storm boys be any different?

The Loota's will demand attention, as always so maybe that will take some of the heat off. The Kans need some game time and they fit the theme. Usually my Orks are Speed freak flavored, moving 70 or so models every turn will feel like my Nids.

Changed my list...

Well after a few games i feel the need to change the 1,000. List. Not cause I'm gett'n tabled just about every game. More for the reason, that when it was built. It was made of what I had painted or constructed. Over the past weeks the number of minis have grown (slowly) and it's time to make a list with some teeth.

Fate weaver -333

10 Plague Bearers with Icon -175

5 Horrors with bolt -95 (x2 = 190)

6 Horrors with changeling -107

3 Flamers -105

2 Blood Crushers with instrument -85

Total--995
7 Kill Points
4 scoring units

What has change... is we lost the Masque and cut down on some Horrors. The points were used up to get the Flamers and Blood-Crushers. I hope the cheesy Flamers will raise some concerns to help take some heat off Fate Weaver. The Crushers are there to have a assault unit. The last list did not have a single dedicated close combat unit. If I continue to roll 2's for my Waves I can use 'em as a lance.

Which I must admit my last game did... finally happen. Yes, it true!

Out of 7 games with my Hurd. I roll a 3+ for deployment. First Time...Whoo Hooo!

Only to have Fate Weaver get blasted in face ( 2nd Turn) and call'n it quits after losing a single wound. Yup.... lost that game too.

Test Model and Army List

I'm pretty sure this what we are going to throw down at 1,000. It's tough and compact. By no means is this tested in battle, but something tells me that Fate Weaver at that points level is wrong. Down side... I have alot of points tied up in just 2 units. Hmmm...

Depending on my mood... always the option of splitting the Horrors to gain the extra scoring unit. Only need to make and paint about half dozen or so models to put on the table...so this list wins as it will lead to the quicker game. Thats is good.

10 Horrors with bolt and the changeling--185.

10 Plague Bearers with Icon.--190.

Fate Weaver-- 333.

D. Prince with Mark of Z. Soul Eater, Bolt of Change/ D. Gaze. Master of S. and Iron Hide.--210.

2 Blood crushers --80.

1,000.
I finally sat down to assemble the warriors and started on my blood crusher test model. Never get to 1,500 with out a second unit of squid monsters! The project is finally turning at the corner... Just a little more work.

May 07, 2009

I made a List...

Okay, as things narrow down on the construction side. I still have allot of sculpting and 10 Warriors to go... I finally took the time to make out the army list for my lil' ole' monster army. It's been stuck back in head... it was just the matter of little math.

At 1,500.

Fate-Weaver

10 Horror's with bolt of Tzeencth.

10 Horror's with Bolt and changeling.

12 Plague Bearers with Icon

5 Flamers with the Bolt.

D. Prince of Z. with Iron Hide, master of sorcery, Bolt and Breath of change.

I can whittle here and there to make an Nice round 1,000. I think/hope.

After all that I have around 400 pts to play around with. I think one more D. Prince would be keen and plan on build one soon any way... still after that it leave me with around 200 pts. For one more solid unit.

I hear Blood Crusher are... Okay, and/or maybe some fiends! I could be real *BLEEP* and build a few Heralds of Slannesh to start drag-in' my enemy around. One the other hand Gamer-side of me knows this army needs one more troop choice to make it dead hard... i just really wanna make something cool.Enter Bug man or the Changling.... this is what i've been foolin around with while crab monsters's green has to dry. Bitz and glue are a terrible mix...

On the Game side... i get my second chance Vrs. the New Gurd Codex soon. I is a bit ascared!
