Eldar Warlock WiP.

Okay, it’s almost Friday and I’ve found some time to take a picture of Warlock that I have been painting on for the past week. Just something that’s been lying around for a while and deserved a little attention.

It's about half done and I wasn’t trying to do anything fancy. My palette is very limited until I can get some new paints. Most of them did not survive the long and extended break. This may be blessing as GW went and redid the whole line again from what I understand.

Anyone have some feedback on what these new paints are like? Are the pots different from the last set or did the stick with old ones? The new ones seemed to aimed at people who hate mixing paint and most of line is just repeated shades and tones of the primary set. Are the washes still the same? I’d be a sad Larry if they were different.

Any insight would be helpful; I’ve never strayed outside of Apple Barrel and Games workshops paints and wonder if this would be a good time to make a switch.  Any recommendations for an outside company would be great otherwise I’ve got some research ahead of me.

Random Wargame Pics.

Hi Everybody!

It's been quite some time now since I've posted something and the guilt was starting to get to me. Unfortunately, the Paint Brushes are on a extended vacation and I really don't have any new hobby stuff to share.  All I've got is some random battle pictures of the past few games.

Exodite 'Jetbike' Test Model

Here's a few pics of my first Jetbike model for my exodite army. He's a standard guy with a twin-linked shuriken catapult. Tell me what you think so far.

Flying Circus...

Okay I won't lie... The paint brush has been kind of all over the past few days. This never bothers me much. As long as the Paint is flowing it will add up in the end. My progress on the Flying Dino Unit is slow. They are bit of pain to assemble, but after some patience and allot of glue we have them all put together. Fiddlely Things....

So during the glue and frustration, I picked up the wave serpent again. In a vain attempt to correct the failed "Rubber-band Experiment." I put some more work on the model. I Don't like it, but when I compare it to the Falcon. It's all right...there's always simple green, but repainting the whole thing just is not happening right now.

Space Clowns

When the Eldar speed project came to a end. Mr. Ilg took it upon himself to help out with the cause. At the time I did one of my famous White paint/Black wash paint jobs and a quick Dry Brush.( The jester is how most of the unit looked) Nothin'n too fancy.

The Harlequins are simply models you can paint forever and ever. At the time the resurrection of the army was a higher priority. Enter Mr. Ilg.... The idea of black/white Harlie's must have been too much for the old Farseer.

I guess?A week or so later he returned with 15 brightly painted clowns. The Power Fist guy is my fav.

Game on...

I must apologize for my lack of posts, but over the past few days it has been slow going on the model front. Instead however, had the wonderful opportunity to play this game of 40k. My long time opponent know as Zealot (inter-web handle) has returned from a long time in the warp to bring back... Orks? Z's army is just top notch. Caching all the great detail that makes Orks 100% awesome! The yellow/black scheme is bold to say the least... and really stands out on the table. The army is not quite done yet. When it is... I'll try to do a proper write-up.

Not much to say about the battle then the Eldar just snuck in the win. With some great dice rolls in jammy moments.... The Avatar kills the War-boss outright in mass combat.... While the Wraith-Lord pops and explodes the Battle Wagon taking a few Loota's and Boys with it! I must admit there was little I could do to contain the Green Horde.

My Warp spiders and Dire Avenger were seen off in short order by the Koppta's with a little support from the Shoota's. My Avatar is destroyed and only 4 guardians live to claim the objective in my deployment zone. After being saved by the Scorpions. Meanwhile the Wave Serpent avoids the Nob in Shoota unit to contest the Orks objective in the last turn of the game.

If the game went on any longer, not to sure what would have happened as my loses were heavy. It was just a sweet game not matter what. As you can see in the pictures.... it looked mighty fine.

Epic Failure...

I should have waited.... i should have tested the "rubber band" idea out on something that did not cost 40 bucks. While a little disappointed with effect... I do believe that it suffered due to my own impatience and excitement. Plus it got damm... cold here all of sudden makeing the spay cans act a little funky. Oh well... I can fix em!

The end is near....

After reading the whole Reserves topic on BLoS I remembered this guy. Mr. Ilg at some point chopped off the ole' reaper head. Then swapped it out for the Swooping hawk exarch's helm. Very simple conversion that make for the 4th HQ. choice for a army I'll never play. Now it's on to a little experiment with the grav tanks. While I'm quite done with the eldar for the moment.... (Painted up almost 2,500 pts in 3 weeks) and my lizards are on deck. This has my mind all a jumble with something new for 40k, Or i could update guard, finish the hrud.

I wish GW. would hurry up with this rumored "Planet Killer." The city of death building kits are some good stuff and I'm just a little curious to see what they have in store.

Wonderful Plumage....

I cant find the Avatar's hat...err..hair. I've been though every box and no luck. Just keep looking i guess... it's here some where? A few pics of what's been goi'n on in the Eldar hood. I might just wrap it all up here really soon, but not till the grav-tanks are done. Never... again will my paint brush touch a Eldar guardian... Never.

March 29, 2009

Ohh.. Mr. Boney Hands

Well just a small update today...I'm wrapinin up the 30 or so garudians tonite and looking for the plumage for my Avatar as I have finally found it's sword.

March 28, 2009

ugghh....

Well If anyone was wacthin i would apologize for the the lack of update yesterday, but no one is so....screw you guys! Slugging my way though the guardians. They look okay, but not the way i picture they would turn out. Oh well.. I manage to snag a wave serpent as my contribution to the army. Two grav tanks, 5 harlies, 6 dragons, 10 guardians, 2 warlock and 5 of the cool robot guys are all that's left. On the Warhammer flip side... I also rang up 3 Terrodon riders for the lizards. I'm real excited to have at the flying lizards, but will wait till the pansies are done. Hopefully... I'll be done at the end of the this week.

March 26, 2009

Hey Kermmit....!

Well just small update on the progress of the past day.... I now officially hate guardians forever. It dawn on me while putting them together that I'll probably never play this army. I can think of 3 chaps off hand would jump at the chance... but I'm more of a hoard player when it comes to 40k. Oh well.... next up is the Mage priest from the lizards. I love the model...always have... a Dead mummified frog from space... says paint me.

March 25, 2009

So Lazy....

I spent the rest of the night glue those damn plastics together. It didn't leave much time for painting but i worked a little more on the base coat for the spiders. I had some more time, but I think playing with plastic glue for 3 hours straight made me sleepy. Oh well not the first time....

March 24, 2009

Damm you Ilg....

I really do think that i just lost a little bit of my soul cleaning all the mold lines of them plastics. When I began....should have counted how many of these bastards there were, I'd figured it was like a box so 16 or so.... No bid deal. After every things cleaned up. Much to my surprise 32 not 16. This may take awhile. You can see a freshly stripped Mangan-Ra or whatever his name is? I should be able to finsh up the spiders soon....

March 23, 2009

Tricksy Elvess...

The paint has been flowing over the past day or so. The Falcon is something I painted like 10 years ago and just needs a bit of a touch up. I'm fast... but i don't think i could paint one in a single day. At this rate I should finish up everything worth salvaging out of the box by the end of the month. At least that the plan... I'd really hate to start this up and not finish it. The Fire dragons and some Harlies have hit paint stripper after i clean up the spiders and scorpions. I do have one problem though... I have 2 Grave tanks and only 2 canopies! I'm not sure what to do... or If you can even order them? I do promise soon a battle report about my Dark Elves... very...soon.

March 22, 2009

These guys...

I have finished up the Dire avengers to table-top standard. I will take family photo soon of what i have finished this week. Up next are those Rangers and some scorpions. I can wait to plop those damn rangers on the table and roll that 2+ save during a game. Causing my foe untold frustration and misery. Trust me i know... this unit is only 6 strong, but I've battle Eldar armies with 2 units of these guys 8 strong each. Oh my poor carines....

Back to the Future...

Well after a second test game... my long time buddy Mr. Ilg. Out the kindness of his heart has given me more Eldar then i ever care to paint. This army has traded hands a few times and fate brought the evil space elves back into my corner of the 40k. universe.

As you can see - kinda- the box is all kinds of of original 90's aspect warriors, War walkers and Waithlords. I took a given promise that i would never sell them and give them some new paint. So I'd better bust out the paint stripper...at least my orks will get to kick around the pansies a bit.

I will write up a little summery soon on the latest battle...

Tutorial: Falcon Construction

Now that I'm building my eldar army up again I decided I'd post a little tutorial about constructing an Eldar Falcon the right way; with working hatches, moving weapons, and a back hatch that opens.

To start, you'll need to construct the driver and gunner. Glue them in place and paint them before you do anything else.

Construct the gunner's cockpit and put the canopy on before gluing him in place. Make sure you glue around the sides or front so that you don't accidentally tag the moving the joint with glue.

When constructing the bottom part of the falcon make sure to keep glue away from the hinge on the hatch. Paint the engine intake, the inside of the falcon, and the hatch now. I kept it simple and only did the metal parts.

Finish gluing the model together. Make sure you glue the little plug that the turret sits on to the underside of the top plate before you make the final move.

Here's the final model before painting. Eldar falcons are on the tougher end of the modeling spectrum so take it slow and hopefully you'll end up with the results you intended. I hope that you found this guide useful.
