Worst. Blog. Ever.

What else can be said for the lack of activity that’s occurred over the summer?

I’m not going to waste time with excuses.... The best part about the hobby is when you take a break, no matter how long; everything will be there when you get back from hobby holiday. Besides, the internet seemed just fine during my absence.

Sure, the paints may be a little dry out and you can’t find the glue, but ya’ gotta start somewhere! Let’s begin with something small and see where the inspiration takes us.

Mr. Z really wants to start heading down to the LGS to drum up some 40k games. Not that big of deal, but it seems they play bigger games in that neck of the woods. The Dark Eldar sit close the 2k mark, yet the list leaves much to be desired. It’s not really even a list, more like everything that I have painted and some extra gear. Just a few more units would fill out the ranks nicely and make the army stronger.

The other side project is some new terrain pieces for the Mordheim table. The summer campaign that I had wished for never happened, (I blame myself) but that’s not going to stop me from giving some more love to one of my favorite games.

So I'm going to make some new lists, build some models, paint them, and continue to lose miserably... while blogging about it all for your enjoyment!

Soon…

Well hey we did get some games in though didn't we? And we have warbands ready to go now, should the interest spark in some new players. After we paint up the rest of this terrain we should get another game or two in before we dive into this 2k 40k malarkey :p

It's the Style Awards!!!!

It seems Tristan over at Gwpertinent has nominated my boring old blog for something called the Stylish Blogger Awards.  I’ve been chosen to participate in a form of good will internet chain letter. Well,I’d like say that I’m quite tickled to be recognized by one of the community.  For one to be honored by one’s peers is the best kind kudos.

This is what Tristan has to say via the Copy/Pasta:

“The Stylish Blogger Award given from one blogger to another one might say, is like a pat on the back for a good job. It's definitely a viral, zombie-like spread of good will so it's too good to pass up.”

The rules;
Thank and link back to the person giving you the award
Share seven things about yourself
Select 10-15 blogs who you think deserve this award
Contact these bloggers and let them know about the award.

First of all, I’d like to offer a huge Thank you to Tristan for the nomination. If you don’t read his blog, I think that you should go fix that right now. It's filled with great content on some of my favorite old school games; Blood-Bowl, Mordheim and Necromunda.

I highly recommend heading over that way and see what’s new on Tristan’s side of the Inter-webs. I also may be a little bias for the simple fact he always commenting on my own blog with helpful suggestions that I really appreciate.

Fun Facts:
    1. “I have a policy to never talk about myself because it’s boring.”

    2. Larry saw The Fellowship of the Ring 3 times on opening day back into 2001.

    3. I have a one daughter, who is quite the digital artist. I constantly beg for Art for the blog but she never draws me anything.

    4. I don’t watch the Television and I rarely play video games. This explains all my free time to constantly paint.

    5. The Tag-line at the top of the blog is inspired by Garrison Keillor.

    6. Refer to #1.

    7. Refer to #6.

My Stylish Blogger Awards go to folks who just blog for the blog of it. They are hobbyists who keep me going when the motivation is starting to lag. Here they are in no particular order…

Noestes-- A true artist. He hasn't been able to blog lately, but one of my faves.
Sons of Taurus-- Anyone who makes Light-up Blast Markers is guy I want to play games with!
Xenos and Proud-- A younger gentlemen, but a fresh and fun perspective on the hobby.
Opposing Forces-- They don't blog much, but they have the most amazing city table.
Drinkin and Modelin--Blood-bowl and Beer all in one blog.
Eldar addict-- One of the better hobby blogs out there.
Anarchy's Heart-- He just finished up an 40k Escalation league with his Chaos demons. Very entertaining.
A Gamer's Blog-- Jr. has just started up and has some well thought out ideas.
Faeit 212 -- Thank you for all the rumor round ups!
W40ktenerife-- It's in Spanish, but they post up some incredible photos and models.

I'm done and have some emails to send.

    P.Y.T. Birthday Contest Winners!

First off, let me thank everyone who joined up for the contest. I just wanted to do something a little special and this was the only thing I could think of at the time.

    Bag o’ Bitz winner: J-K
    Rogue Trader winner: corry3446

Now, if you're one of the lucky winners, send me something with your Mailing Address and I will get the goodies sent out to you during the next week. You have until Friday, March 25th to contact me. I’m also going to send you a message though Google Connect, so please reply to that. I don’t want to first contest to be a flop!

Congratulations to our Winners and don’t worry if you didn’t win this time around. Zealot just generously donated a big box of new and used models to give away over the summer, and that’s just what we will do! Stay tuned for future details.

Now that that's out of the way, let's move on to painting. It’s been kind of a slow painting week for me. The weather took a turn for the better it’s been cutting into my hobby time.

Most of my Wednesday was spent super-gluing my fingers together in attempt to magnetize my Dark Eldar vehicles. The once fragile sails of the Raiders are no more and I magnetized the drivers and gunners as well. I was a magnet-virgin until this project, but now I can see why everyone goes through all the trouble. The whole process was a bit of a pain, but now the Raiders/Ravagers fit safely into my fancy case, and that fact alone made it all worth it. For the amount of money and time I invested I’m very pleased with the results.

    Official P.Y.T. Birthday Give-Away!!!

Alright, my little gimmick has hit a snag. I completely forgot why I still had the Chaos Lord around in the first place. I have been reprimanded. So, I also must apologize and withdraw it from the giveaway. I don’t think anyone really cares, but that’s the way it is.

So, the “Genestealers Giveaway” is still on. However, to make up for my goof up, I’m going to raffle something a bit more interesting. The only thing I have more of than painted models... BITZ. As you can plainly see the bag is rather large and could contain countless different pieces.

Join the blog before the end of Wednesday, March 16th and you will be entered into a lottery raffle for this huge bag of random Games Workshop Bitz. It’s that Plain and simple. The Drawing for the Hybrids and Bag o' Bitz will be announced on March Saturday March 19th.

Once I announce the winner, you will need to email me with a mailing address to claim the prize. You will have until March 23rd. to respond otherwise, I'll just raffle it off again. My email can be found in the side bar of the blog. The package will be delivered U.S Mail and shipped securely. If you happen to live outside the States or Canada, I will try to mail it to you, but as long as it doesn't cost me a cliche.

That’s all I got for today, since the weather is going to be respectable. I’m going to try to go out to the garage and take some family photos of the Dark Eldar army.

    Paint your Toys:Two years later.

    Whoooo Hooooo!!!

If you don't want listen to me wax moronic skip down to the....
What can be said? March 11th, Two year ago, I started this blog. I missed last year's anniversary; I fell off the wagon for about 4 months or so.... Besides that little hiccup. Since June of last year, I've made it a point to blog and here we are.

Fun Fact: I've been playing Toy Soldiers for almost 25 years, but this whole "Warhammer/Internet" deal is still new to me. Heck, I didn't start reading the "Forums" till around late 07'.

No, I'm not a Luddite; I'm just Lazy and too busy painting my toys.

Why did I start this Blog?

Well honesty, it was just for three of my gaming buddies in three different locations. They wanted to see what I'd been painting and this was the easiest method to do so. Anybody else? Really, I wasn't expecting anyone to take much of an interest, but it looked like fun.

    That's it.
    No Dreams of Internet Stardom.
    No Delusions of Grandeur.
    Just Paint.

I'm glad everyone likes the blog. I must offer a sincere and most grateful Thank you to everybody who's taken the time to read/join my blog and who's commented on my stuff. (Google Analytics tells me everything.) I may not have hundreds of readers, but I have the best. They keep my little blog quite lively. I'm very appreciative of this fact. I'm still baffled by the number of people read it.

I know it doesn't mean much, but I do try to comment on at least one blog everyday just show folks somebody's listening. It's my only way of giving back and supporting my other bloggers. I like comments, so I figures, other folks do too. The the best advice I can give on blogging is to be active.

What do I enjoy the most? The "community" that happens to be slowly building as we network across the inter-webs. Some of these guys around the Blog-Sphere do some amazing work that really inspires me. No matter what, I'm very pleased to be part of this experience.

The pictures are all my gaming shelves (pardon the dust) because I couldn't think of anything else to photograph for this post. For the most part, this is all my painted stuff... without the new Dark Eldar. EDIT: I went back and took a few more pictures and added them to the spam post.

One last note: Zealot and I have decided to join forces to better promote the awesomeness that is the all "painted game" experience. Now you can look forward to seeing all his work here in the near future. Plus he loaded up his older content, so make sure to check it all out.

    You join blog? Why Not?
Thanks again for reading and stop being lame.
    Paint something!

Cross Blog Promotion: SCW's Barter Bucket

edit: you can find all the models on this blog now!

One of my long time gaming partners is cleaning off the shelf this week on Santa Cruz Warhammer's Barter Bucket. If painted Inquisitor stuff is yer' thing I'd suggest you check them out. There is also a Space Marine Dreadnought and a wheelie-popping Tech-Marine.

Do you happen to be one last reaming defenders of Athel Loren? There is a stunning fully painted Wood Elf army that needs a home. Mr. Z is also hiding a huge box of other stuff that you should pester him into posting up too!

On my end of things, I've slowly working on the Battlescape terrain set for the past two days and should have something to post by Monday. Also I'm going to check into getting some magnets over weekend before one of my Raiders break.

Lastly, a humble and respectful Thank You, to the gentlemen at Santa Cruz Warhammer for the thankless job of running The Bucket. I've never used it myself, but it's a awesome idea considering how much it cost to deal with E-bay these days. The fact you "trade" models across the internet is simply genius. It's nice to see the Blog Sphere provides such a valuable service.

    Foam Madness!

In a vain effort to keep my new army all in one piece. I thought it would be wise to finally breakdown and get one of those fancy-pants miniature cases.  Deep down inside, I must completely admit this was a most frivolous expense, but damn... does it look slick.

I was so very tired of carrying around all my stuff in plain old boxes. I put allot work into these projects and it's worth some money to protect them. This has never really been a issue before now. I play most of my games at home, but this spring, I'm going to stretch my legs a bit and check out the local scene again.

I got the thickest trays they had in stock, but the sails on the Raiders are just too tall. I should just magnetize them now in order to save myself some grief in the future. My only true regret is getting the trays that you have to cut out. I lost a good hour or two of good painting time repeatedly cutting out foam squares.

    Ahh... Rats

I had a Skaven army once, all Old school pewter. Got when I was a kid, though some White Dwarf promotion. I'm mean what captures the imagination more then a pair of cowardly rat-men running around with a flame thrower that spits green fire!

    Hadn't played in years.
    Sold 'em on Ebay.
    Stupid Larry.
    Oh well...

I was on the border line for this one. My spidey sense was tell'n me, painting hundreds of rat men might drive me over the edge. How many pink tails can one paint before you go insane? When the clan rats came pics came out a month ago, I was sold. I've been waiting for this for a long time. I started to poke around the the website to check out the other plastic sets.

Hmmm... didn't care for the Rat-ogres (shame), and some the plague monks still had the cartoony look to them (sigh). So, I decided to wait until I saw the spure for the clan rats, maybe do some head swapping. Unfortunately, the new models heads are fused to the torsos. Hmmm... Then I saw this guy!
    He just screams action.
He's jumping over a swarm of lil 'ole rats.
    Die,Die! Man-thing!

The description on the Storm Vermin spure said it has a few extra heads. A bit of hope. A $50.00 box of hope, but a little. You get 20 rats in the Vermin box so, it does take a bit of sting out the price. Then the Doom Wheel!
Heck, I just want to get one to kit-bash and make a new truck for my Orks. This thing is just too much. Just that banner alone is the coolest bitz I've seen in awhile.I should just give up now and go buy some Vermin Brown, but 4 pt. Clan Rats make my paint brush cry.

My Thoughts on the New Gurd Book.....

First of all... I would like to stay on the topic of the secretive Hrud.

Instead of going on about Psykic Choirs or Poison spitting tanks. Don't even get me started about the New plastic Flying bases. No... instead, I'll talk a wee bit... about the fluff inside the book. Well... if you have read the Noteworthy list of battles in the new Guard book, it seems Ole' Mr. Creed had our number and put our kind in even further decline.

This is only a insult compared to the mortal wound dealt to us by that blasted thrice dammed Eldrad! It seems any time some random 40k Smecial Character needs to kick butt... my Hrud are the First in line. Now... I know how Squats feel.

Geez... can't wait for commander Hot-stuff of the Tau Empire to Blast us off some forgotten asteroids Or the newest Dark Elf sadistic half-necked she-beast to eat our poor souls.

Hmmm...?I'll get you Creed... and your little Krell too!

The blurry pics are of my 10 Hrud warriors who escaped the cleansing of the Imperial Crusade. I want one more unit of 10, but rather put off at the moment.

All the green stuff on the other models has taxed my brains. As you can see somewhere under all that putty was a Ghoul model from the new Counts range. I took all the left over Fleshborers from my Gaunts. Add one Kroot barrel on the gun and few armor plates.
Then Green stuff... allot of it!
I need to build 10 more...
I need to build 10 more...
    I need da... Uuuggh.

Guess, I need to take better Pictures too.
Ya' thought you were gonna read about Marbo!
    Ha!

    Spring cleaning....

You paint and you paint and you paint. Why? Cause we wanna play Warhammer! That is why!

I'm lucky to have a tiny spot to call my own and play host to what left of my gaming stuff in the garage. It's not the battle bunker, but it's mine. So after the long cold winter... today... with a day off and this funky yellow thing in the sky blindn' me all the while. I cleaned house. Just a bit more effort and it's game time. Can you find those tricksy Elves?I found this monster on my mess of a table. Forgot that i even painted him back in the fall. Funny thing is... cleaning up found 4 more kroot bodies. The frame for the conversion. All it would take is a $22 box of ghouls... a crap ton of green stuff and the Hrud would be finished. Too many ideas and so little money for toys....sigh.

On the lizard front we have the warriors. Now... i painted them like 2 years ago, but have spent the last day or so putting on the yellow highlights . Along with some detail work here and there... like the spines on their backs.

Each project i try to learn or try something that out side the comfort limit of my skills. Just one technique or extra step... so i can twist it in every direction and learn something. Hopefully incorporating it over to next project. Never be afraid to experiment, but remember mistakes will happen.

When it was the guard army...flesh tones. The most recent Eldar...how fast can i paint. Squid boy... up above...was an attempt at sculpting. The Lizard men... was and is still my attempt to paint a very bright scheme of color and bring my standard a just little higher. Once I get around to taking some photos of the rest of my armies....you'll understand.

Any ways this unit is most of the way done. The front rank needs cleaned up and some shields are in order. The last step i guess would be the bases and a movement tray. Never done that before... I mean a real one...not just a slab of card board.

To-nite.... scraping mold lines off my skinks...good times,

Still no signs of Avatar hair?!?

    April 04, 2009

    Troubles...

I'll keep it simple the camera battery is dead. My offspring has started up European football club this week so.. like a good single dad, call me taxi. The battery will be charged soon... so don't think the paint has stopped. Oh no... it never stops. What the hell else would i do? How ever... i think that it's time to call it quit on the space pansies. Pics to follow...

    March 20, 2009

    It's only a flesh wound...

So... how can ya' just start up a project log and not update it for a few days? Reason? The Boss slammed a door on my hand a few days ago and the sucker has finally stopped bleeding. I'm big boy... but do have one complaint. It's bit of pain in the ass to paint right now. I can't balance my hand on the desk to do the really fiddly work. So... the past few days have been a bit of a wash. I've put down the lizards in favor of a few base coats on the evil space hippies.

    March 19, 2009

    What's this all about?

I'm not the best model maker.
    I'm not the best painter.
    I don't win every game.

What I am is one guy with one paint brush and a prolific amount of enthusiasm for the hobby.
    What does that translate into?
Some the sexiest looking games on the inter-webs.

That's my mission. Plenty of guys want to talk about toy soldiers but nobody wants to paint them. Two fully painted armies and modeled table used to be the standard in war-gaming. Now those days seem long gone...

Image shamelessly stolen from Wiki-something or other.

    March 11, 2009

    Plans of the old ones....

This is the first post... huh? Not every exciting is it? Well just you wait...buddy. This was going to be a Warhammer Fantasy blog as it seems to me that 40k gets all the Internet love. I had my plan all in mind... but the itch is getting to me. You know the one ya get in the back o' head after G. W. thinks of new and evil scheme to take our money! The past few months of Ork releases have me thinking green instead of lizard man orange.

After much debate is will just treat this a general project log, but try to give Warhammer some of the spot light. Playing both games as it's advantages so can be covering both be wrong?
