Who would think that these tiny craft would be the cornerstone for my army reaching 2k. If there's one thing I've learned about Av. 10 skimmers is that one is never enough! The only survivability they have on the table is in pure numbers and lucky saves.

That's why I got two...

One big decision will be what rides in these craft. It's something that's going to need worked out as I finalize the list. Beyond the three blaster set-up, I'm open to any suggestions to what would be the ideal unit? I'd like to try a unit of High Born with Splinter Cannons for just the right amount of overkill. It seems like it could be a great follow up unit to what the dark lances manage to crack open. Anyways, I'll post up some progress in the next few days, but it's going to a little bit of time to finish off these models.

What else can be said for the lack of activity that’s occurred over the summer?

I’m not going to waste time with excuses.... The best part about the hobby is when you take a break, no matter how long; everything will be there when you get back from hobby holiday. Besides, the internet seemed just fine during my absence.

Sure, the paints may be a little dry out and you can’t find the glue, but ya’ gotta start somewhere! Let’s begin with something small and see where the inspiration takes us.

Mr. Z really wants to start heading down to the LGS to drum up some 40k games. Not that big of deal, but it seems they play bigger games in that neck of the woods. The Dark Eldar sit close the 2k mark, yet the list leaves much to be desired. It’s not really even a list, more like everything that I have painted and some extra gear. Just a few more units would fill out the ranks nicely and make the army stronger.

The other side project is some new terrain pieces for the Mordheim table. The summer campaign that I had wished for never happened, (I blame myself) but that’s not going to stop me from giving some more love to one of my favorite games.

So I'm going to make some new lists, build some models, paint them, and continue to lose miserably... while blogging about it all for your enjoyment!

Well hey we did get some games in though didn't we? And we have warbands ready to go now, should the interest spark in some new players. After we paint up the rest of this terrain we should get another game or two in before we dive into this 2k 40k malarkey :p

Wasn't intending on getting another chimera right now but since Larry snagged a nice haul from one of our less-motivated friends' failed projects I decided to get it painted up and ready for play. It has magnetized weapons but he glued the lasguns in place. LO fucking L. I sure do love saving models from obscurity and getting them painted and played with, though!

Mordheim Madness

The City of the Dammed has been overrun by the vile Skaven and the only thing stopping them is the Brave men of the Empire. Under ash choked skies, the factions of the Old World battle for glory and domination over the lost City.

Early skirmish reports, tell the tale of victory for the Mutilator and his minions. In a desperate fight around the Forgotten Tomb, the overwhelming numbers of Rat-men were the undoing of Walter and his Mercenaries. The reward was rich one as the Skaven chased off their beaten foes. A Incredible bounty of Wyrdstone was the prize, fueling future hopes of Skaven glory.

In the aftermath, despite the rich haul of loot, the seer of the Skaven war band was gravely injured and must spend time healing the wound. While the Empire with it's numerous wounded warriors made out of rather well without loss or other setback. Now each side stands poised to battle once more in The City of the Dammed.

What's up gang?

The end of May is usually a busy time for me and it always cuts into my hobby time. Things are starting to settle down around here and it's time to work. There are still a few terrain projects I want/need to wrap up before the crazy bionic bird-men make the scene next week.

Project #1 more Craters for the table. The Blastscape looked all lonely and a battlefield can never have too much devastation. The #2 Project is the infamous Space Marine Statue and it's other components. What 40k table is complete with-out this grim reminder of the Imperial might? I'm hoping to work on the stuff over the next few days and will post something up over the holiday.

Warhammer 40k Blastscape: Finished

The hobby time was plentiful this week and it made painting up the set rather easy task. I went with the neutral Grey scheme so the pieces would blend on both tables. After a Heavy Ink Wash and allot of Dry-Brushing, all there was left to do was add a bit of color. Nothing fancy, but I wanted it to contrast with the Grey. Overall, they turned out decent and add some flare to the Ice world. I could even use a few of them for for Warhammer Games.

Warhammer 40k Blastscape

Well, it's been a quiet week here around the hobby table. I haven't the time to sit down to do anything major due to numerous outside distractions. Yesterday was the only real chance I had to "hobby" and did not let it go to waste.

I stopped the by the LGS, earlier in the week to find this buried and forgotten gem. I thought it was just the regular Crater Set, but I was wrong. It turned out to be the limited edition BlastScape from the PlanetStrike Expansion. No matter, the rest of my Sunday was spent basing and priming. Hopefully, I will find some time to work on them over this week and I'll post up the progress.

Space Marine Test Model Pt. 2

Instead of me fooling around with more test models, I decided to sit down and paint up one of the Magnet Marines. As wisely suggested, I took pictures at different angles this time around, so you can see the whole mini.

I must admit this single model was quite a pain in my @$$. The Magnets would spin around, so my answer was to glued them in place with the tiniest dab of glue on the joints. Later I would drop it and the most of the Magnets popped out super glued the arms and not the torso.

Despite the set-backs, I finished out the model. For the most part, I’m pretty pleased with how it looks. It would take a long time to build up an entire army this way, but I think the effort would equal the reward. Now I just have to paint up his other set of war-gear and we can call this model finished.

Modified 1500 pt GK List & thoughts

Thought I'd throw a post out here while I have some thoughts on units from this relatively new codex. I've gotten two games in with the Grey Knight book and so far I'm finding it enjoyable. Both were vs Larry's Mechanized Dark Eldar, the first being Kill Points - which I took, and the second being capture and control which resulted in a draw. I'm thinking him and I will be experiencing the growing pains of using a new list together, as we both could easily find a few mistakes we made in those games. That being said, 40k shows its prowess as a great game by being something that you can always get better at.

Here's my updated list with my thoughts in italics:

100 Coteaz - this guy allows me to take =I= henchmen as troops and isn't too shabby for his points cost. Sanctuary played a role by preventing some wyches from charging and I can definately see it coming into play more in the future.

100 Banisher w/Eviscerator, 7 Psykers - bumped these guys up to 7 for the higher Strength. Only drawback to this squad is when they fry themselves.
60 Chimera w/Hull Heavy Flamer & Dozer Blade

42 2 Plasma, Flamer - I'm not saying this is the best unit ever but I feel like taking a unit like this could be pretty good in the long run. During the first game I played with them, the KP mission, they simply acted as a mobile firebase in their chimera. Their low numbers didn't come into play because that particular transport didn't get destroyed. The second game I had my purifiers take their chimera and put them with the rest of my firebase on my objective. Their plasma did work, and eventually the flamer guy killed like 5 DE Warriors. So far so good.
60 Chimera w/Hull Heavy Flamer & Dozer Blade

147 3 Banishers w/Eviscerator, Crusader, Flamer, 7 Acolytes - A relatively simple CC troops choice with the ability to carve up armor as well as negate a few saves when it's clutch. The unit is cheap and can fit in a Chimera if I need them to. The flamer is a cheap way to keep them a bit more killy and flexible. Most of the time these guys will slog it up the middle of the battlefield with the transports for cover.

145 Grey Knight Strike Squad w/2 Psycannons, MC Daemonhammer, 2 Nemesis Force Halberds - I was playing these guys as purifiers in the last game but I could tell that they will end up playing more of an anchor to most of my games, shooting and doing cc as a counter-assault unit if need be, so I swapped them over to Strike Squad status to render them scoring. Deep Strike and the ability to hop in a Chimera make the unit versatile.

134 Banisher w/Eviscerator, 2 Jokaero Weaponsmith, Flamer, 5 Acolyte - Jokaero's are cool and they don't seem half bad so far! This is my anchor unit. If I stick Coteaz with them they can be pretty nasty on the 'I've been waiting for you' rule. Very stoked to see a unit with Multi-melta abilty like this and being able to kit the unit out with an Eviscerator and flamer and still keep on the cheap is pretty cool imo. The fact that this unit can just up and move with the rest of my force and still be effective makes this unit one that I'll be watching to see how much I can eek out of them.

150 Dreadnought w/Psybolt Ammunition, Assault Cannon & Missile Launcher - Not the most ideal loadout but hey, it's built and painted so I'm gonna give it a few go arounds. Hasn't been amazing yet but hasn't been bad. S7 Assault Cannons with Rending are cool.

145 Vindicare Assassin - HOly Shit GW!

145 Callidus Assassin - She still seems to be pretty damn good. First game I had her hop out of a unit that was in CC (doing d6 S4 hits during my f-ing movement phase lol) and use her flamer template on another unit. Dipped through a building the next turn due to move through cover and fleet and commenced carvin up some Warriors. Just don't roll horrible on your reserves k thx

270 Dreadknight w/Psycannon, Nemesis Greatsword & Personal Teleporter - HOO HOO! Shunt is pretty fricking cool and if you compare this beast to a Demon Prince (which are good imo) it looks even tastier. The Greatsword might not have a million attacks on the charge but the re-rolls (and cool giant sword) are worth it. Get yourself a cover save though kiddos, that 5+ don't last long unless you roll like me.

Space Marine Test Model

I'm not sure where I was going with this scheme. I wanted something metallic, but not silver. I wanted a color that would stand out on the table and at the same time would lend well to my wash-style of painting. After a few tests, we have the model that you see here. What I was trying to go for was... something regal or majestic, but it looks like it’s been in service for a very long time.

I started out with a brown base coat, then follow by Shining gold, then a liberal wash of Leviathan Purple. Next, the highlights, going back to the Shining gold, and then layered with Burnished gold… A little bit of Mithril Silver along all the edges, and finally a coat of Gryphonne Sepia to blend it all together. A few lite coats of Devlan Mud to start the shading, in the final stages, I layered with purple and black wash to help further define and add tint.

The little bit of color on the left shoulder pad is something to add more flair. I may just go back and make it all one solid color or keep it gold. The one thing is... the other marines are hybrids between the stranded kits and the new Death Company set. So, the next one will have more contrast with help of the shoulder pads and other details in the armor.

Any comments or criticisms are always appreciated.

Video Battle Report #1 - IG vs DE @ 1500 pts

We've thrown around a few ideas and settled on trying a quick video report. I'd like to encourage everyone to let us know what you think about the game, strategy, video format, etc. We are both pretty new to doing anything like this so bear with us.

One thing we both noticed is how crazy 20/20 hindsight is when you can really pick apart what you did. We learned a lot more from this game and the one we recorded yesterday than we would have if it was only memory serving us. Youtube channel here

Painted Crusader (GK Henchman)

I decided to mess around with the GK book this week once I finally really looked into it and realized how much room I had to use my mechanicus models with the army. I threw together a halfway shoddy 1250 list from the stuff I have and a box of purifiers that I picked up. Going forward theres a bunch of stuff I can/will change but for now I"ll just leave you with pics and a list. I will say that I don't think crusader's are good and that I just wanted to finally paint this model and play with it after it's lay around for years. It's a great example of a fantastic model that never quite had anything good to do. He'll probably be sub par and get shelved lulz

This is the best I can do with what I have model-wise. I took out all the fun and frills. No more randomness of waiting for reserves. What's left goes all on the table at once, all on the same flank and attacks in unison. For the Eldar, it's not very elegant, seems kinda Orky, but it's worth a try. Stay focused and don't get fancy. Always remember to play the mission and be mindful of the objectives. I type this crap, but I never seem to do any of it during a game...

The army basically works in three waves. Jet bikes and Mandrakes play disruption, the second wave of Hellions, Warriors and Wychs. Finally, the Ravagers play the support role. I'm aware that not everyone is a big fan of the Night Shield upgrade, but I am. The only silver lining to my last game was watching some of Z's guns come up short, thanks to the Shields. Just 10 Points to break my opponent out of his rhythm for those first few crucial turns is not be dismissed. They also give you a edge during a Night fight. Go fig...

If there are any blinding errors or omissions? I'd be happy to correct them.

Magnetized Space Marines Pt.2

For the time being this is it for the Marine project. I really wish they had some helmets, but that will have to wait. The only minor detail left is to drill out the barrel holes on the pistols. I feel pretty accomplished after the project. I’m little wiser about magnets without any major blood loss or inflicting damage to an important model. If the little buggers didn’t eat up so much time, I’d skip out on glue forever. Warning: Magnets are addictive. I keep trying to think of a fun magnet project besides boring Space Marines, but so far I got nothing.

However, before I can paint up one of these marines. There are a few loose ends with the Dark Eldar that need to be handled. After my last embarrassing defeat, I took a good look at my army and made a few adjustments. Then I spent most of yesterday building more Jet Bikes and a trio of Blaster wielding Trueborn.

These guys turn out better then I hope for when I started. They are made of Guardian legs, Wych torsos, and the Blasters are a cut apart Shredders with Blast pistols replacing the end of the barrel. They remind me of pissed off Fire dragons. Anyways, all they need now is Venom to cruise around in and they will be set to blow stuff up!

Magnetized Space Marines Pt.1

By no means is this a full blown project. I could see it being one, but it would require a fair amount of time to construct an entire army in this manner. For the time being, I’m happy just hobby away at the models I have now and not look at this as another army.

Long story, short… I really liked the way the magnets worked out for my Raiders. So, that got the old gears turning and inspired me to grab a box of the new Blood Angels Death Company. After a good old dig in the Bitz box, I was ready to build some marines.

It takes about 2 hours or so to build one guy, between scratch building the base, deciding the final pose and equipment layout. There are magnets embedded in the torso and in the back as well. The models base is also magnetized. The arms and backpacks have been lined with a a very thin sheet metal cut down to size. I figured it would save me on some magnets in the long run. I’m waiting to put heads on them till I can find something different then the standard/boring Mk. 7 helmets.

After I did the first one, I had to get some stronger magnets because the all parts would spin around and that annoyed the piss out of me. They still move a little bit but it's not nearly as bad. Other than that set-back, I’ve enjoyed the project so far. The one pain I have encountered is getting the Bolters to line up properly, but I think that has to do with how far the magnets are drilled into the torso.

These are just the first two and I’m pretty happy with them. If I can settle on a paint scheme in the near future I’ll get started on painting the one. It’s been ages since I focused on a single mini. I think it will make for a nice change of pace.

Would you quit the Hobby if you never won a game?

It’s a simple enough question. The answer is a most difficult one for it requires brutal self-honesty and evaluation. I do not ask this question lightly for it’s one I’ve been struggling with for some time now. I came to the stark realization yesterday, that I’ve not won a single game since July. No matter the game system, the result is always the same.

Built my Hrud and they never won a game.

I painted up a bunch of Tau models to never win a game.

I built the entire city of Mordheim over last summer and won just a single game.

I only won one game in that Fantasy league over in the fall. I had to “cheat” to get that win.

My brand new Dark Eldar are a devastating 0 -5.

It’s not the games, it’s me. I just plain suck Donkey Balls.

So what would you do? Why waste all my time, money, effort, and my life? It seems kind of pointless to pour all this energy into the hobby when I’m getting so little in return. It’s all most to the point that’s it not fun anymore. After writing up this long list above, I should just quit now and waste my money on lottery tickets. I’d probably be better off…

City of Death Repaint Pt.3

It’s been a rather quiet week around the painting table. Outside powers conspire to steal away my hobby time, but I still managed to finish off these two buildings. That only leaves me two more to go. Then this little vanity project can come to a close.

I may end up building one kit, but I’m a little torn. I just don’t have the motivation to paint up more right now. I’d hate build it and then give it a half-a$$ed paint job. It would look some what out of place after all the time that’s been sunk into the other structures. Plus, I couldn’t just build one. That would give me an even number of buildings for the table. I don’t know why in the world that bothers me, but it does. Call me a bit odd, I guess.

So, if everything goes according to plan, I’ll finish this all up over the next week and we can move onto something more interesting.

Despite my various setbacks over the past week, I have managed to start one project that is long overdue. My City of Death buildings have been in dire need of attention. Back when I first got the kits, I was in a hurry to get them together and on the table as soon as possible. That was like over 3 years ago...

If I had my way, I’d be cutting and hacking up some new Styrofoam hills for the table, but it’s not that nice outside. Instead, we’ll just spruce up the buildings for now. I didn’t want to start over completely; I’d already done some work on the gold skulls and other details. It was better to just bust out the Metallic paints and washes and have a go.

These two are what I’ve managed to finish so far and I still four more to paint up. It’s a bit sloppy, but I’m just trying to drag out more contrast in the models and not spend the time it would actually take to paint up these insanely detailed kits.

Now that that's out of the way, let's move on to painting. It’s been kind of a slow painting week for me. The weather took a turn for the better it’s been cutting into my hobby time.

Most of my Wednesday was spent super-gluing my fingers together in attempt to magnetize my Dark Eldar vehicles. The once fragile sails of the Raiders are no more and I magnetized the drivers and gunners as well. I was a magnet-virgin until this project, but now I can see why everyone goes through all the trouble. The whole process was a bit of a pain, but now the Raiders/Ravagers fit safely into my fancy case, and that fact alone made it all worth it. For the amount of money and time I invested I’m very pleased with the results.

This tank was easily knocked out in the last two days. It still impresses me how much better the 'new' kits come together when I'm assembling them. I'm also interested to see how this thing performs on the table.

Also, one of my more favorite 40k writers, JR (aka 'Prince of Excess' on Librarium, where I found him) got a blogspot going and I just wanted to send some reader his way. You'll definately be interested if you like real talk about the game that's actually relevent and current to the meta-game. I traditionally have had a rough time finding knowledgeable writers that really understand the game on a larger philosophical level and personally, I think this guy is spot on. Unfortunately my time is rather limited today, so you get to miss out on all my usual typos and grammar mistakes. I meant to post this up yesterday, along with a list, but I was way too busy doing “The Celebratory Booty Dance” with confirmation of the Dark Eldar in the month of June.

They almost had me (Stupid Sexy Grey Knights) but I should be okay now.

So, here's the Dark Eldar army as it stands. Just about 1.5k in models all painted up and ready to play. I can’t wait to add some Venoms and Scourges! Until the new stuff gets here, I'm going to focus on my table and get to work on some Trueborn to ride around in the skiffs.

What can be said? March 11th, Two year ago, I started this blog. I missed last year's anniversary; I fell off the wagon for about 4 months or so.... Besides that little hiccup. Since June of last year, I've made it a point to blog and here we are.

Fun Fact: I've been playing Toy Soldiers for almost 25 years, but this whole "Warhammer/Internet" deal is still new to me. Heck, I didn't start reading the "Forums" till around late 07'.

No, I'm not a Luddite; I'm just Lazy and too busy painting my toys.

Why did I start this Blog?

Well honesty, it was just for three of my gaming buddies in three different locations. They wanted to see what I'd been painting and this was the easiest method to do so. Anybody else? Really, I wasn't expecting anyone to take much of an interest, but it looked like fun.

That's it.

I'm glad everyone likes the blog. I must offer a sincere and most grateful Thank you to everybody who's taken the time to read/join my blog and who's commented on my stuff. (Google Analytics tells me everything.) I may not have hundreds of readers, but I have the best. They keep my little blog quite lively. I'm very appreciative of this fact. I'm still baffled by the number of people read it.

I know it doesn't mean much, but I do try to comment on at least one blog everyday just show folks somebody's listening. It's my only way of giving back and supporting my other bloggers. I like comments, so I figures, other folks do too. The the best advice I can give on blogging is to be active.

What do I enjoy the most? The "community" that happens to be slowly building as we network across the inter-webs. Some of these guys around the Blog-Sphere do some amazing work that really inspires me. No matter what, I'm very pleased to be part of this experience.

The pictures are all my gaming shelves (pardon the dust) because I couldn't think of anything else to photograph for this post. For the most part, this is all my painted stuff... without the new Dark Eldar. EDIT: I went back and took a few more pictures and added them to the spam post.

One last note: Zealot and I have decided to join forces to better promote the awesomeness that is the all "painted game" experience. Now you can look forward to seeing all his work here in the near future. Plus he loaded up his older content, so make sure to check it all out.

Warhammer 40k Battlescape

Well, after a weekend of paint work the Battlescape is complete. Something about a wreaked out Rhino, just appeals to the old Xenos player in me. I tried to keep the paint job as natural as possible that way it would blend on the table. The Rhino is painted up as a defunct Space Marine Chapter.(Really, just any old excuse to use Rotting Flesh and Devlan Mud.) I also used a little bit of static grass to cover up any major gaps between the trees and the base and I might add some more later on.

I only a few comments on this kit... the mold lines on the trees too forevermore and day to scrap off. After all the effort it took to get them cleaned up, I still missed one or two. The kit has just the right amount of detail on it, but not a single bullet casing to be found. Not that big of deal, but I just found that a bit odd.

Hmm... Grey Knights...

1. The Dread Knight is just preview of how smooth a some New Tau Battle-suits might be...

One of my long time gaming partners is cleaning off the shelf this week on Santa Cruz Warhammer's Barter Bucket. If painted Inquisitor stuff is yer' thing I'd suggest you check them out. There is also a Space Marine Dreadnought and a wheelie-popping Tech-Marine.

Random Wargame Pics.

I'm not going to bore you with a detailed recount of my latest defeat. The pictures kinda tell the story all by themselves. The smart thing to do...

1.Would have been to use the building to my right to cut off one the major firing lanes.

2.Instead of jetting off to no where with the bikes, I should have used them as my cover shield to gain advantage of the mid-field. I would have still suffered the some loses, but everything would have been concentrated on my turn 3 to break the damn Chimera wall.

3. Dark Lances are never to be counted on. It's just dice ,but the Ravagers definitely underperformed this game. I rolled up like 15 or more shots between the two gunships and only destroyed one tank.

4. Remember your War-gear. I never rolled up my combat drugs, completely forgot about the bikes extra assault move, then forgot my Hami's have Acid guns, and I also forgot roll Flicker Fields for two of my Raiders during the game. Simple mistakes that all add up to same result.

Well, that sums up my learning points from this game. There is always next time....

Hobby Update

Updates have been less frequent lately. I still have been playing 40k games at 1000 pts with my friend Larry (who blogs more than me and paints more than me lol) but I've taken a bit of a break from the hobby. Funds have been absent to build up the Mechanicus army lately and I took some time painting up my Skaven from the IoB set. I'm planning on delving back into Fantasy with the rats (b/c... well... fuck Wood Elves), but I'd rather get my IG force in good order first.

This, for me, means having 2000 pts I can count on. (ie no trash/dicey units) Should be getting a medusa in a trade here so that will get me headed where I need to be. Right now I have about 1250 that's stuff I'll want to use in the final list.

Here's the 1k I've been playing with for quite some time it seems. The only thing I don't care for in the list is the stormtroopers. They're too dicey for my tastes. The Russ Vanquisher w/Pask is amazing but is also a bit expensive for an army of this size.

Foam Madness!

In a vain effort to keep my new army all in one piece. I thought it would be wise to finally breakdown and get one of those fancy-pants miniature cases. Deep down inside, I must completely admit this was a most frivolous expense, but damn... does it look slick.

I was so very tired of carrying around all my stuff in plain old boxes. I put allot work into these projects and it's worth some money to protect them. This has never really been a issue before now. I play most of my games at home, but this spring, I'm going to stretch my legs a bit and check out the local scene again.

I got the thickest trays they had in stock, but the sails on the Raiders are just too tall. I should just magnetize them now in order to save myself some grief in the future. My only true regret is getting the trays that you have to cut out. I lost a good hour or two of good painting time repeatedly cutting out foam squares.

Dark Eldar Ravager Painted

I had some free time over the weekend and I had already assembled the model. So, I proceed to set my paint brushes on "Insane". 4 hours later.... we have Ze' painted Ravager. Instead of gluing everything down on the last one. I left it in separate components and that made the job go allot quicker. It also helped, that this was the 6th Raider chassis I've painted for the army. So, I guess a little repetition is a good thing sometimes.

However, this is the last thing I'm painting for the army until the next wave. As it stands, the army is sitting a 1.5k. and I don't see the point of expanding it any further. Ya' know what would be really keen right about now? A few Venoms or a evil airplane, but all that is going to have to wait until the summer. (Lousy G.W.)

Anyways, do not fear, the painting madness will continue. I've been thinking some terrain kits are in order. I need to spruce up my 40k table a bit. Oh, and I changed my blog template, I wanted to test my patience and inexperience with the HTML code. Not everything is the way it should be yet, but I'm learning and that's kinda the point.

This past week was my Daughter's 15th. Birthday, so understandably my painting time was a little less than usual.

I tried not to let the time go waste and focused it on the unit of Hellions. Neat models but are they incredibly fiddly and annoying. I still have to work on the riders and put some markings on the sky-boards but that shouldn't take very long. Once that's done, the only unit remaining is a second Ravager to round out the army list to a solid 1.5k.

If I could find the energy and motivation to finish out this last vehicle...

Dark Eldar Reavers

Well, all I can say is they are done. It’s a really neat model kit but the price makes amassing a huge unit unfeasible. This new ball joint on the flying stands is nice change from the old one. After a few coats of paint the bikers sit on the stand with little or no problems. I can’t say that for the Hellions. So, now they are painted what to do with them?

The Internet makes it sound so easy, but I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that it’s going to take a lot of trial and error to use this unit properly. I’m not expecting great things from my bikers; I just want to get the maximum effect. Next up on the painting table... Hellions.

Homunculi. Is there anything they can't do?

This is just a quick post. The fact is that I don’t have much to show off this time around. I’ve been feverishly working on the trio of Jet bikes and the same time painted up this second homunculus. These two maybe the only remaining models from the original range and did they have the mold lines to prove it. I also touched up the first homunculus. Now they both look reasonably sinister.

Since, you get up to three for a single HQ choice, down the road I’ll have to grab a third one. Right now, I have them riding in my Warrior units until I can put some Trueborn models together. They rate pretty high in my book. They remind me of MacGyver as they seem to have an answer for everything. Both of mine use the venom blade and liquefier gun set up. For the cost and the pain token it’s well worth it.

On a side note: Does anyone have a strong opinions on Baron Shazz-butts or whatever his name is? The guy who rides the sky board, gets the chicks, and the +1 to deployment roll. I keep seesawing between him and The Duke, but I can't decide.

What to do about Mandrakes?

In last weekend’s post, I mentioned something about Jet Bikes, but the local stores were not cooperating. Unfortunately, I could only snag one box of bikes because that’s all they had in stock. After that little set back, I decided to paint something else. This week’s efforts yielded the Mandrakes.

Like most of community, I've pondering the overall worth of this unit. Even if they aren’t outstanding on the table, they do add the element of paranoia that all outflanking units do.There is always that risk of the maneuver backfiring, but the enemy should be scrambling after the Portal comes into effect. Mandrakes seem like a unit of opportunity. Taking advantage of weak deployments, disrupting strong zones or helping out with your own aggressive set-up; these are the strengths of the unit.

Sure, the Mandrakes won’t be smashing Land Raiders anytime soon, but with some practice and some Pain Tokens, I feel they can perform and have something to contribute.

Random Pictures & Random Thoughts

Please accept my most humble apologies for the lack of updates. I took the month of January off after all that work on the Dark Eldar. I was a little burned out and the battery needed to be recharged (Too much Anime) before anymore projects. Well, break time is over and it’s time to get the brushes moving again.The Internet is quietly rumbling about the next wave Dark Eldar.

So, I think it’s time to head back the Dark City and finish out the army. All signs point to Mordheim in the spring and the countdown has started

The pictures in this post are from the only two games, I’ve played with my evil elves. We’ll say… the games; they didn’t quite go the way that I planned. Instead, I’ll just chalk them up as learning experiences. To be honest, not only did I lose both games, but I lost them both in a most spectacular fashion.

“Anything worth doing is worth doing right!” That’s also includes losing.

Now I didn’t just lose these games and then go cry big tears of shame into my 40k pillow. No, I’d rather lose the next 20 games. In the agony of defeat, I usually gain a better understanding for the smaller details of the game. Perspective can be an incredible tool when used properly. Sure, the sunny side of victory is great, but my focus now is on learning.

On the side of Table top Tactics, I need to use my mobility better and quit splitting up the army. My speed will insure that I can isolate and overwhelm sections of my opponent’s defense. Using the army in force, will give me the firepower needed to destroy any chosen target. Also this allows me to start layering my Raiders for cover saves, instead of relying on the table. Once I stop using the table as a safety net, I will have the freedom to start attacking and take control of the game.

The other side of the coin is my lacking of disruption units. As it stands now, all my units are equally threatening, or at least that’s the way I see it. Now, that’s not completely bad, but it never hurt to have a throw away unit. The Jet bikes fall into this category. I’m leaning toward the bikes for 2 reasons, melta-guns and the bikes ability to move 36” in a single turn.

I’ll pass on the upgrades and go with 6 and pair of Heat lances for a reasonable 156 points. Add one more Ravager and I’m almost up to 300 points in my next block of 500. Anyways, hopefully I grab some bikes here next week, and have something to post towards the weekend. If I get the chance to sneak in a game, I’ll let know how turns out.

Dark Eldar Warriors and Beastmasters

This weeks post is a little late, normally I like to post stuff over the weekend, but I got distracted over the past few days and couldn't find the time to sit down at the computer.

From the complete lack of comments, I guess no one really cared for the Wychs from the last post. So, I thought it would be a good time to post up my other Warrior squad. They are kitted out with the same gear as the other unit-- the Blaster and Splinter Cannon combo. All together, I have 3 completed infantry units now. All there is left to paint?
3 vehicles and my 2 homunculus. Then everything will be sitting pretty a 1,000 points.

Finally, we have my Beast-master pack. I love this unit. It's a prefect excuse to use some of my older Xenos models on the table. The Snake-men have been posing a Kroot Hounds in my Tau Strike-force, while the Star-Spawn Wannabe has been sitting pretty on the shelf, after the disbanding of my very unlucky/short-lived Hrud army. All that needed painted was the trio of Hellions to act a Beast-masters until the actual models are released.

Thanks to new book, these models can take on new roles and add some uniqueness to my army. Besides, for all the work I did on these models, they deserve more game time and I plan on playing my new army for the most of next year. They will count as Khymeras and a Klawed Fiend then will deploy out of a Warp Portal carried by one of the Homunculus.

The project is entering the final phases!

Instead of boring you all with more Warriors this week. I decided to change it up and post the Wych squad that I have been slowly painting. The unit itself contains 9 models commanded by an over-dressed Succubus.

I still need to pick-up a Homunculus to fill out the unit. After that little addition, the ladies will be all set to go. Over the next week... if I'm lucky, I'm hoping to pick up the rest of the army and get to work on the "Raider" portion of the project.

Lastly, a big thanks to everyone for all the positive feedback and attention on the project. My blog is a quiet one, so every comment and Reader mean allot to this old Hack and his paintbrush.

Its been another quiet week around the painting table. My time spent finishing the other half of Warriors from the last post. The work on all ten near is completion and soon the unit will been done!

I went with the Blaster and Splinter Cannon combo that seems so popular these days. I also skipped out on the squad leader at this time. The list is only 1,000 points. Its better to get bodies instead of upgrades when it comes to the smaller games.

These ladies are still in need of attention, but I'm rather pleased with the progress so far. I'm also hoping to snag my first Raider later this week. I'm way too excited to get my hands on that kit, but at the same time, I'm a little nervous to see how the paint scheme will play out on the model.

More Dark Eldar Warriors

These guys are in the final stages. Just some touch-ups and some static grass for the bases. I've been playing around with a 1k. list over the past few days, just to see what it would look like on paper. The list is three raider carrying two units of warriors and one Wych unit.

After the war-gear, those three units total near 700 points. That leaves room for a Ravager and whatever Commander I finally decide to take. I'm a torn between the inexpensive Succubus or the Homunculus. Both are great choices and that's what is making it hard to settle on one. Next time I'll post up my list after a little more math.

I'm back with just a small update. Impressed by the Wych models, I couldn't help myself and had to grab a box a Warriors. If the paint scheme seems a bit familiar it should. I stole it right from the old Codex. Just flip over to the very back cover.

After painting this model, I must admit, its incredible tempting to paint up a 1k. army. The models are sweet and the book looks like lots of fun. The chance to make some cool Webway Portals is almost enough reason to start up an army.

Howdy gang, its been a whiles since I have made an update on the old blog here. Mostly for the reason, that my computer died out and that allways impacts a persons Internet usage. So, I managed to pirate a machine to bring you a quick update. I recently bought a box a Wychs just for fun. These guys are the result. No plans right now for an army. I was just messing around with different paint schemes and enjoying these awesome minis.

If the pictures look a little sharper then usual... That's thanks to Zealot letting me borrow his cool light box and uber lighting set-up. Hopefully, I'll get this computer thing figured out and I can get back to regular updates.

Imperial Guard Repaint

Its been a quiet week around the gaming table, so I took advantage of the slow time to sit down and paint up all my old 2nd Edition Cadians. 31 infantry in all, but I wanted something a little different then the standard green/tan paint scheme.

So, I busted out the old yellow ink and few of the washes. After laying down all the base colors, I added and unhealthy amount of Devlin Mud and called it a day. When everything was dry, I finished the bases. There are still 20 or so old Catachans to paint up, but they may take a little while.

Even more so, I dread the thought of painting the10 more I need to finish out the unit. For as much time as I put into these guys, they better whoop some @$$ on the table.

It has been a slow week. Most of my time has been spent quietly slaving away on the new plastic Phoenix guard. They are really nice models, but they are pain to paint up. It was my plan to get a full unit of 20 on the table. After it taking so long to get them up to a decent standard, I'm thinking it would be easier to go with more Sword-masters instead. It might be a little better for the wallet too. Once I wrap up the unit. It will be time for some better photos.

Return to Mordheim pt.3

These are a bunch of photos of the triple-header of Mordheim, that I played last night against Mr. Watson's Beasts of Chaos. The foul horde took all three games with a unstoppable fury, that left the Rozenritter beaten up and bloody. The first one was a occupy 5 of the buildings to win. The speed of the Beast lent well to this type of objective, and they took total control of the board. The battle that followed left 3 of Spearmen dead and Walter Schepkoff grievously wounded.

The second game was a Chance Encounter that gave the Rozenritter quite a bloody nose. The only shinning moment was when Oskar squared off against the vile Shaman. It was only a minor victory however, as the mercenaries lost the taste for battle soon after, leaving city to the Beastmen.

As luck would have it, The Rozenritters met up with a Elven Ranger, who shared the same hatred for Beast of Chaos. They join forces to face off against the Beast in a third and decisive showdown. The results were the same, as the Beast showed no mercy. In the end 8 of my warriors were out of the game, but all my luck rolled up at once, and every single one lived to tell the tale. Not the ranger though, he was killed for his trouble.

All I can say... More Mordheim, please!

Return to Mordheim pt.2

Well, I can not help myself. Every time I play a game of Mordheim. My mind goes all crazy with more hobby ideas for the City of the Dammed. I'm starting wonder if the table will ever be finished? These are just a few of the side projects that have been lying around, while I was busy painting up the Elves over the past month.

This tomb used to be part of my 40k collection, but I ripped off all the identifiable bitz. I also added more rubble and static grass to base to help blend in better with other pieces. It looks pretty cool for being an old paper cup dispenser.

Everybody seems to dig the original tree stand. So, I built a second one. I didn't have another dead tree but, so I left the center clean until I can add one. Wire trees are not that hard to make. They're just time consuming.

Finally, the Well or whatever you want to call it. It didn't turn out the way I thought it would, but overall, it gets the point across. My mistake was pouring all the glue at once instead of working in layers. With the stuff I just built and Temple from back in August. I'm half way to have a decent Warhammer table in addition to more terrain for the City of the Dammed.

Island of Blood Update

It is the end of the month and I should probably post something up about my budding High Elf army. For the amount of money I have spent, the army is a pretty decent size and almost reaches 2k. Thanks to the ridiculous points cost for a griffin mount and the Elf rider.

Anyways, I manage to paint up everything that was purchased this month. Since finishing up, its been waiting game for the new Phoenix Guard box. Some of the units need more work then others, but at this time, I'm unsure in what direction to take the army. As it stands, the army has zero direction at all. It's just a collection of units. I should just bite the bullet and get what the army needs before I lose steam for the project.

Over the weekend the Rozenritters had the opportunity to continue their adventures in city of the dammed. I played a set of games against Mr. Watson's vile Beastmen. Here are just few pictures of the games.

Walter Schemkmoff leads the leads his men onwards deeper into the city. Rumors of a lost treasures strengthened everyone's courage after the disastrous encounter with the Skaven. They boldly headed toward the center of town.

Unknown to Walter and his men, a new group of hungry and brutal Beastmen had also heard the same whispers of lost riches. Under the eye of their savage leader, the hoard race across the city, searching the ruins, but all efforts was in vain.

The beginning of the battle was a bloody one. A poor swordsmen was taken off guard by the hulking beasts and quickly smashed by the monster. Bother sides made visual contact in the town square. The Marksmen of the Rozenritters took aim, but the morning sun spoil most of the shots.

The herd wasted no time and engaging the enemy. Poor Brittenfeild met a tragic end at the hands of the rampaging beast, who killed the other warriors. All across the square fights had broken out as man fought beast. The feral Shaman spoke his black words knocking most of the Black-lancers to the ground. All the while, Muller and Walter and the Beastlord stood face to face in mortal combat.

The day seamed lost for the Mercenaries, but for young Wolfgang, with his twin blades making fast work of the wicked Shaman and his minions. The sudden surge of causalities was all it took for the fiends to lose heart and run away. The lucky break came just in time, as the Beast-lord battled down Walter, only the bravery and blade of Muller saved the Captain from serious harm.

However, for the Beastmen, it was only a temporary withdraw. Later the Rozenritter would stumbled upon some shards of Wyrdstone. The fantastic find went sour fast. The monsters were lying in wait and the skirmish was brutal. Once the horde made contact, the Rozenritter withdrew to avoid any injury.

All in all, a great set of games with only a few minor set backs. The worst for me was losing three of my four spear men at the end of the second game. The Beastmen got off light as well, and they ended up hording up gold for some future dark plans.

Warhammer Escalation League Pt.3

This is makes the last installment for my mini-league as we played out the last game on Thursday. The list were bumped up to 1250 and my Elves were struggling to make the jump. All I had left to add for units, were some lame Silver Helms. The moment, I set foot in the store, I realized that my efforts were in all vain. My competitors had shown up with strong units like Hydras, Giants, Minotaurs and all sorts of stuff.

Ya, know.... stuff that helps wins games.

This will be the very last time I show up at competitive event and try to play with a fluff army. No more of that bullshit for me! I'm showing up with a entirely painted army, comprised of the best units that I can take. The Lizardman army featured in the pictures had a Old blood, Scar-veteran, Skink Priest, and don't forget the Steggie.

I'd like to say this game was fun, but it simply wasn't...

Warhammer Escalation League Pt.2

These are actually pictures of my 3rd game of the league. The brave High Elves stood against the Hordes of the Chaos. The game was only 1k, so there's no need to go into a detailed analysis of my defeat. With is only one game left in the mini-league and with last weeks loss. I'm pretty much out of the running for any of the fabulous prizes.

The league has been allot of fun and a learning experience on how to play "competitively". In all reality, I need to quite hamstringing myself with self-imposed restrictions. This time around it was trying to use my new High Elf army against every one's established collections. I was painting/making do with what I had, while my competitors were building solid lists out of their larger armies.

The league has also forced my to ponder the "why" gamers don't paint their stuff, but I'll go into that after everything is wrapped up on Thursday.

I've been playing allot of games lately. For the most part, its has been Warhammer and a sprinkling of Mordhiem. So, here's a few of the pictures just for fun. The only game I'm missing pictures for is a 1k. Kin-strife between the Wood Elves and my freshly painted High Elves. It was one of them reserve games and "1's" were plentiful at the time... leaving most of my army off the table. The ambush that followed was swift and brutal.

This is from the Mordheim game that Z. and I play last night. The sinister Skaven made way into the city of the Dammed for the first time. The struggle that followed was won by the Rat-men. The Rozenritters have vowed revenge....

And finally, my Escalation League from last Thursday. I won this game, but I felt kinda bad afterwards. We were both still new to 8th. Edition and things got screwed up more then once. Brent was great sport about everything, but it always bugs me when stuff happens. These are definitively not the kinda "wins" that you enjoy.

Here are some pics of my 750 pt. army for last weeks game in the Escalation league. I'm not going to base any of the models until all the army is painted. As of right now, I have been slaving away a unit of spear-men for next weeks game. I'm not entirely sure, what I am going to do for the very last game, but I'm sure I'll figure out something.

I got really lucky in last game and managed to pull off a win against the Ogre Kingdoms. It was a tough fight, due to the fact, a special rule limited all shooting to half-range for the entire game. However, my Sword-masters were keen on chopping up the Ogres and put in a stellar performance. So, with a lose and win each, it should put me in the dead middle of the standings for the league.

Escalation League (week 2) recap & Week 3 preview

Here's a few random thoughts: I like 8th edition*, I like the store I found, and blocks of Saurus Warriors are best ignored or evaded. You most likely won't seal the deal without devoting a -lot- of resources to the melee.

Week 2 was another good time and this time I managed a win. My opponent was a really cool father that had his kid in the league too. (He was distracted a bit but I didn't mind. I'm sure his kid was having a blast.) This game was vs. Lizardmen again in a cool Fantasy-esque mission where our forces vied for the possession of warpstone tokens, which were worth a random number of victory points at the end of the game.

For next week, I bought another unit of Glade Riders, some Waywatchers, and two of the new generic pieces of wargear (from the back of the rulebook) for my Noble.

Warhammer Escalation League Pt.1

This past Thursday, Zealot and I got ourselves mixed up in a new Warhammer League. While Z would be fielding his trusty Wood Elves. I thought in the "spirit of the game" that I start up a new High Elf army. Why, may you ask? The reasons are simple, but three-folded.

1. The army is in the starter set. Also, the army also has one heck of a Battle Box making it very cheap money-wise to build up an army. The army also has expensive core choices meaning less models to paint.

2. Access to all the lore of Magics. That just happens to be one of my favorite parts of the game. So, this is big plus in my book. Not allot of armies have that kind of flexibility and will help keep things fresh.

3. Now here is the main reason, I want to make a High Elf army... no new book. That's right, I want to experience the power creep of 8th edition by using the very first release as form of bookmark. Sounds like a interesting experiment to me...

So, onto the first battle with my new models. It was against a nice chap, by the name of Jamie and his sinister Dark Elves. We were only playing 500 Pts. so, there's no need for great detail. It was fun game, I lost due to his constant dispelling of my Fire Mage. His Dark Elves made the long walk and chased off my forces in short order. Good times...

Any-hoo, my only negative comment about the game is simply, Jamie claimed to be a Veteran of 10 years, but not a painted single model in sight. Just some dark green over the cloaks, some purple, but that was about it. This kind of behavior baffles me to no end. How can you can you push toy soldiers for over a decade and not have a painted army?!?

Not every army has to be a Golden Demon winner, but Damn, whatever happened to the three color standard? Well, the next League game is tomorrow and we bump up to 750. Looks like I've got some painting to do...

Mordheim Rebuilt: 20 The last test game.

I thought we might get a chance to start up the campaign over the weekend, but Mr. Ilg didn't work on his Pirate Warband. So, once again, the Rozenritter had to face off against the deadly Shadow Warriors. I have refrained from posting up any of the previous games because...

1.We were still learning the relearning rules
2. I've gotten my ass kicked in every single game.

The very first game we played. My leader, along with two other henchmen were killed off and I've never really recovered. The history of our test games is littered with the bodies of many brave, but dead warriors. The only lose suffered by the Shadow Warriors was a clumsy Elf, who broke his neck falling off a building.

This was our 6th game, the last game was my best so far, (I still lost) with few of my heroes gaining skills, and my Marksmen gaining an increase to their Ballistic skill. The stage was set for a old fashion skirmish and revenge....

Schenkopp and his Rozenritters take the field as single group.

The lethal Shadow warriors split into teams before advancing on the city.

Elf-bear-pig leads the way.

The keen sighted archers take to the ground.

The Rozenritters stick close to the buildings wary of bow-fire.

While on the flanks, the Marksmen take up firing positions.

The Elves waste no time and advance in full force. What shots the group could see missed and Rozenritters escaped unharmed.

Meanwhile, on the opposite flank the Marksmen exchange fire with the Elven leader and his cronies. In the end, it leaves one of my warriors stunned and knocked down off the bridge.

Elf-bear-pig and his kin continue to close the distance.

The rozenritters take up a defensive formation and ready themselves against the charge.

The calm before the storm.

In a crazy turn of events, the Marksmen blasts the Elf leader into the ground.

The skirmish becomes a grand melee. The elves decimate the battle line, but fail to take any of my warriors out of action.

The Elven Mage quickly takes down poor Brittenfeild.

Chaos in the streets.

The rampaging mage is brought low by a Crossbow bolt.

The Rozenritter counter-charge only to meet heavy resistance. Schenkopp and Elf-bear-pig do battle, after a few rounds of combat, the mighty Elf is taken down by the mercenary leader.

Despite, winning most of the combats, the losses for the Shadow Warriors were beginning to mount up. As the humans showed now signs of mercy.

After such Heavy casualties, the Shadow Warriors lost the nerve to fight and flee into the city. Leaving the human mercenaries to celebrate their first victory.

After the battle, all my warriors recovered and made off with a decent haul for this adventure into the city of the dammed. Unfortunately, for the Shadow Elves, some wounds proved to be fatal. The leader of the group was killed, along with a couple of henchmen. With most of the Heroes out of action, the exploration phase was poor to say the least. That brings our test games to close and the real campaign ever closer.

I got bored of painting elven infantry. So, my paint brushes wandered over to this monster. It still needs some touch ups and details, but I'm not going to get to field the model for awhile. What I should have done is worked on my horse riders instead, but I have this irrational hatred of painting cavalry. Besides, this guy was way more fun.

The long wait is finally over! Today the new Warhammer Starter box hits the shelves and 8th Edition is in full swing. I was one of the lucky guys, who got a box a day or so early. As you can see form the pictures, how I've been spending my free time. Everything is pretty much a work in progress, but after two days they are coming along nicely.

This half of the box will be the beginnings of a small High Elf army that I plan to paint up over the next month. However the master plan has hit a snag....I'm out of Devlan Mud. Doh!

Anyways have fun with all the cool minis! They are just awesome.

Random Furies

Just a quick update. I mentioned in my last post, that I was gifted a bunch of free models recently. Besides, the horde of Guard Infantry, the other half of freebies took the form of some old Chaos Furies. Ten to be exact. My Dark Elves need more units to build up for 8th Edition. These guys are prefect for "count as" Harpies. All I need now is few more Executioners and the army will be set for the new edition.

Basing Tutorial (Fall Wood Elves)

First, use a box. Not for fun but b/c you don't want to spill shit all over your place and have to vacuum afterwards. A box might look like this..

I base most of guys with Elmer's glue and fine black ballast from Woodland Scenics (free plug sponsor me) and I skip around leaving some areas blank so I can fit grass tufts inbetween. I like my static grass to be in clumps b/c I think it looks cool like that.

Put a generous glob of glue in each spot you want the grass and put your miniature over the container. (the dont-be-an-ass to your roommates part) Then put pinches of static grass all over the spots (generously) and push it down a bit. Turn the mini over, hold it above the container, and flick the bottom of it to remove all the unglued grass and make the stuff that did stick stand up. If there's still glue showing just do it again.

It'll look like this.

Then just drybrush a bit of glue here and there and do the same thing you did with the static grass again, this time using whatever leaves you've purchased. These ones here are from Galeforce Nine and they're awesome and you should buy them and they should sponsor me.

Grinding on that old to-do (aka being the hobby)

Just was looking over my models and getting back in gear after a short "I just moved" hiatus and I remembered that I had a to-do list that I made in January and decided to see how well I've done w/it. Today's notes in CAPITAL RED.

From my post in January:

This year I'll be sure to build and paint an additional 500 points of Mechanicus for my 'guard' army, as well as 200 points for my WE. (a fitting 2000 points of each) I've sold armies on E-Bay for years and I am keeping these. COMPLETE

As far as Space Hulk goes, I will painting the models to high standard and tossing the whole box on E-Bay (with Battlefoam). I don't have a need for it right now and it's taking up space in my life. (and GW announced it's not going to be 'limited', like they originally said it would be.) COMPLETE

I will construct and paint the Exodites that I've purchased and then make a decision on whether or not they will be sold. ON HOLD FOR DE BOOK (EDIT - GONE!)

I will also finish construction/painting on my Knight Titan and hopefully get going on his brothers-in-arms. ON HOLD FOR MORDHEIM

So basically I'm awesome and I do what I want. I found a new place to play near my house and the crowd there seems stellar. Watch out for some Mordheim shit soon! I'm playing in a Fantasy league starting tomorrow so I'll probably be posting about that a bit.

I’m not going to go into great detail about my little ‘ard boyz experience. If I did, I would get all worked up and pissed off... If I was to blame anybody? I would blame myself... I completely forgot, what effects "competitive play" has on lesser men.

After that most fortunate occurrence the Model Fairy paid a visit to my house and I magically inherited a bunch of 2nd edition Imperial Guard. I’ve been thinking about repainting my Guard army and this pretty much ends that debate. I might also try to enter a Warhammer Escalation league that the store is running soon. Okay, we will try this again. After a bit of an oversight on my part. I had to revise the list a little. I added two more skinks to the scout units and two more magic items to the Slann. One was the Banner of Discipline, as suggested by Nuclear.... Thank you, sir.

The other was the Bane Head. I saw in the Lizzie F.A.Q, that the Miscast wounds are doubled by the curse. So, if I bump off a Miscast with my cup, the said Wizard will take double wounds, if any from the chart. It's not a game winning strategy, but it will give the other guy something to think about.

I'm also trying to make up some spell counter to help me remember all that stuff. If I get 'em done in time, I'll try to post them up.

No, this list does not contain a double Slann. Nor, is it a Stegga-stampede. It's a nice balanced list with all the units that I am comfortable playing with. I won't lie, there are a few things I'd like to change, but funds and time are an issue right now. It may be 'ard boyz and all, but I'm not going field unpainted minis just to win a silly tourney game.

The Temple is finished. I ended up painting it over the weekend, but I've been distracted by getting ready for the Warhammer 'ard boyz silliness. For the most part, I've had my nose in the rulebook trying to wrap my head around all the changes and what it mean to my Lizzies. Unfortunately, I will only get one test game before the event, but its cool. My expectations are low and I'm really going just to play some 8th edition Warhammer.

So, Mordheim will go on a little hiatus this week. I did get a chance to put in a few more test games and it looks like we might start the campaign in the next month. Very exciting stuff....

Just a small update on the temple. Most of the work on the construction side of things is complete and I'm just waiting for the glue to dry. I slapped on a few bitz, here and there, but kept away from anything that would have rooted to the Old World. Just in case, I'd like to use it for a 40k game someday. Over the weekend I should be able to get some paint on this thing and make it a bit more presentable.

This is just a bit a show and tell post. The point is demonstrate how the same construction methods and materials used to build my Mordheim city can be used make 40k buildings too.

I built these a long time ago, back when the City of Death kits were first coming out. I had very little funds and “needed” some buildings for my games. All I had special was some old Necromunda bulkheads. The rest of the details are old bases, molding strips, and balsa wood. The only regret looking back on the projects is size of the towers. Other then that, they are some of my favorite terrain pieces.

Its a shame, I don’t use them very much. The smallest of the them is still freakin’ huge. All three, on the same 6x4 just dominate the table. I consider them my Apocalypse terrain. You can hide a Reaver Titian behind the last one!

First off, thanks everyone for the generous comments left on my last post. Everybody likes to get compliments, but when it comes from your peers. It means all that much more!

Now it's time for all the fun stuff that is going to add some character to the table. One of those projects will be this big old thing. I can't remember for the life of me, what game it is from, but should make for a wicked shrine/temple for the city.

It's fair size, as you can see, but there is one issue. The backside of the shell is open and will need to fixed up. Not a big deal, but one that has kept this thing on the back burner.

This was Mordheim. The city of the dammed had fallen on some tough times. Just about every building in the the set was busted up in some fashion.

It was time to rebuild.

The test building was a little trouble, but after I figured out what to use for what the collection grew quickly. In my hobby frenzy the city began to take shape.

It has taken about two months of solid work to get to this point. An insane amount of glue and paint later, the dark city rises once again! I'll post some more of the current city over the weekend.

This is the last of the empire models from when I originally assembled the Warband. Now there are plenty of reinforcements as the group expands, or least that is the plan. I tried to mix up the weapons this time around to add a little variety. The dual pistol guy is going to be new captain for the Rozzenritters. All I need now is a Halfling Cook, a Troll-Slayer, and a Ogre Mercenary. That little trio of Hired Swords will make the Warband complete.

I still need to add a few details to finish and some moss to glue into the gutters, but for the most part it is done. Now that the buildings are in the final stage. It's time to get to work on some side projects that I have in mind for the city. A few Hired Swords and more Henchmen for my Warband would be good too. So, basically I'm at a crossroads for where to go from here.

The final ruin is constructed, primed, and ready to be painted. This was the very last of my left over Mordheim bitz. So, unless I scrap up some more, this will be the end of the buildings. I managed a total of 16 buildings. I won't lie. This project was a heck of allot work and entire bottle of Gorilla Glue, but it was so worth it. As suggested, I also made a few more platforms for between the buildings.

Here it is... the very last building. It's still a work in progress, but I thought I'd snap a picture anyhow. It has the same design as the first tower, expect it has two blasted out holes in the walls, one in each of the floors. I couldn't resist putting a hole in the top floor like the other one. Hopefully, I'll get it all finished in the next few days.

Here, we have my little modeled up treasure chest. It's filled with all sorts of different bitz and a generous amount of glue. Since, I've already went as far to make a few Wyrdstone counters, this seemed like the next step.
